USCIS runs a lottery every year for H-1B workers. For the fiscal year of 2026, the annual cap has been met. What other types of visas are available if you did not get picked in the H-1B lottery?

An L-1 intracompany transfer visa is for managers, executives or workers with specialized knowledge who can transfer to the United States from a related entity abroad. The individual must have worked at the related entity for more than one year.

An O-1 pertains to individuals with an extraordinary ability in science, business, art, education, or athletics. There is a high standard of approval for an O-1 visa.

An E-1 treaty trader visa is for individuals to engage in international trade. The individual must be a national from a country that maintains a treaty of commerce and navigation with the United States.

An E-2 treaty investor visa is for individuals that invest a substantial amount of capital in a U.S. business. Like the E-1 visa, the individual must be a national from a country that maintains a treaty of commerce and navigation with the Untied States.

A J-1 visa pertains to individuals that are interested in exchange visitor programs. These programs include teaching, research, study or cultural exchange.
