Immigrants have long been the backbone of America’s communities, classrooms, and businesses. Many have lived in the United States for years, contributing in countless ways, yet still lack a pathway to permanent legal status. These individuals are not just statistics—they are our neighbors, colleagues, and friends, each with a story of perseverance and hope (Chicago Sun-Times).
Recent national surveys show that the vast majority of Americans support a fair solution for these immigrants. In fact, a 2025 Gallup poll found that about 85% of Americans favor a path to citizenship for ‘Dreamers’—young people brought to the U.S. as children without legal status (Gallup). Additional research from Pew and Ipsos confirms that support for legal status and opportunity for Dreamers is both broad and bipartisan (Ipsos, Pew Research).
On December 4, 2025, Senators Dick Durbin and Lisa Murkowski reintroduced the bipartisan Dream Act of 2025. This legislation aims to create a pathway to citizenship for those who have spent most of their lives in the U.S. and have contributed to their communities and the economy (Chicago Sun-Times, Immigrants Rising). The American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) and other advocacy organizations have voiced strong support for this bill, emphasizing the overwhelming public consensus and the urgent need for congressional action (AILA).
"This is a pivotal moment for Congress to respond to the will of the people and establish permanent protections for undocumented and temporarily authorized immigrants," said Ben Johnson, Executive Director of AILA. "By acting now, we can continue to build a more inclusive and prosperous future for all" (AILA).
As the debate continues, one thing is clear: Americans are ready for change. It’s time for Congress to listen to the people and finally create a path to citizenship for undocumented and temporarily authorized immigrants. Together, we can build a stronger, more welcoming America for all.
